Bratwurst With Fennel And Red Cabbage

A quick and easy meal with spicy bratwurst sausages making a change from ordinary "bangers".


  • 50 grams butter
  • 1 red onion, peeled and finely sliced
  • ½ red cabbage, finely sliced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 4-6 bratwurst sausages


  1. Heat the butter in a frying pan or saucepan and cook the onion until softened.
  2. Add the cabbage, cover and cook over a low heat for 8-10 minutes until the cabbage has softened. Stir in the brown sugar, red wine and fennel seeds and cook a further 2-3 minutes.
  3. Cook the sausages in a hot lightly oil frying pan and serve with the red cabbage.
