Lamb spare ribs are an economical purchase, easy to cook and add a fun element to a family’s meal.
Ingredients
- 1kg lamb spare ribs
- 1/4 cup runny honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup hoi sin sauce
- 1-2 teaspoons Chinese five spice powder
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
Method
- Mix together the honey, soy and hoi sin sauce, five spice powder and ginger. Pour into a sealable plastic bag add the lamb spare ribs, seal and toss to coat. Allow to marinate for one hour if possible.
- Turn the oven on to fan grill 200°C or 220°C without fan. Line a shallow baking dish or oven tray with two layers of foil.
- Drain off and reserve the marinade. Place the spare ribs on the prepared tray - making sure they are in one layer.
- Cook under the preheated grill for about 15-18 minutes, turning occasionally and at the same time brushing with the marinade until the spare ribs are well browned
- Alternatively barbecue over a moderate grill, brushing with the reserved marinade regularly.
Cooks Tips
In a hurry - marinate the spare ribs at room temperature for 30 minutes only – this will cut the marinating time.
