Spicy Beef Satays

Spicy Beef Satays


  • 500 grams rump steak
  • 1 onion, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed and peeled
  • 2 tblsp Indonesian soy sauce
  • 2 tsp each ground coriander and cumin
  • 1 tsp each turmeric, five spice powder and salt
  • 1 lemon (grated rind and juice)


  1. Trim any excess fat from the rump steak. Cut the steak into long thin strips, about 0.5cm wide. Thread the strip evenly onto 12 skewers.
  2. In a food processor put the onion, garlic, soy sauce, spices, lemon rind and juice and process until smooth.
  3. Pour the marinade over the beef and turn to coat. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for one hour or overnight.
  4. Cook the skewers over a moderate heat for about 8-10 minutes turning once. Serve with the Quick Peanut Satay.

Quick Peanut Satay

  1. In a bowl blend together 1/2 cup each smooth peanut butter and coconut cream with, 2 tblsp each Indonesian Soy Sauce, lemon juice and brown sugar.
