Potato gnocchi with quick savoury sauce


  • ¾ cup semolina
  • 500 grams (about 3 large) potatoes
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • Quick savoury sauce
  • 425 gram tin savoury tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs or 1 teaspoon dry herbs


  1. Peel the potatoes and cook in boiling water. Drain well and mash.
  2. Add the semolina, milk and eggs and beat well. Season with pepper, salt and nutmeg and cook over a moderate heat, stirring contantly for 5 minutes until the mixture becomes quite thick. Allow to cool.
  3. Roll into balls and flatten into patties, then dust in flour or extra semolina.
  4. Panfry in a little butter or oil. Serve hot with the sauce.

  6. Empty the tin into a saucepan and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the herbs and season with pepper.
