Orange And Bacon Pinwheels


  • 2 cups self-raising flour
  • 50 grams butter


  • 2 oranges (grated rind)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • extra grated cheese
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 6 rashers bacon, cooked until crisp and diced
  • ½ cup cheese
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon


  1. Sift the flour and salt into a large bowl.
  2. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Make a well in the centre.
  3. Pour in the milk and mix quickly with a knife until the mixture forms a soft dough. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured board and knead lightly. Roll out to a 25cm x 10cm rectangle.
  4. Combine all the ingredients for the filling. Spread the filling down the centre and roll up lengthwise.
  5. Cut into 8 even-sized rounds and place on a baking tray in the pattern of a flower or wheel. Sprinkle over a little extra cheese.
  6. Bake at 230°C for 10 minutes until cooked. Serve warm and fresh.
