Give this classic cabbage recipe a twist by using Peking cabbage. It's great served with any meal, though pork is a particularly good partner.
Ingredients
- 50 grams butter
- 4 rashers, lean bacon, finely sliced
- 1 onion, peeled and finely diced
- 1 large carrot, peeled and grated
- ½ Peking cabbage, finely shredded
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Method
- Heat a large lidded frying pan and when hot, add the butter, bacon and onion and cook stirring until the bacon and onion are cooked. Add the carrot and toss quickly to wilt.
- Add the cabbage and toss. Add a dash of water, cover and steam for about 3-4 minutes until the cabbage is wilted. Season with the nutmeg and salt and pepper. Serve quickly.
Cooks Tips
In place of the Peking cabbage, use drumhead, savoy or red cabbage and add a little minced garlic for extra flavour if wished.
