Hazelnut Slice

  • Makes 30 pieces
Hazelnut Slice

Hazelnuts have a lovely flavour for baking and this slice won't last long.


  • 1¼ cups hazelnuts, toasted and skinned
  • 1½ cups rye wholegrain flakes
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup ground almonds
  • 1 cup coconut
  • ½ cup flour or use ground almonds
  • 250 grams butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup


  1. Chop the halzenuts finely and place in a bowl with the rye flakes, brown sugar, almonds, coconut and flour and make a well in the centre.
  2. Stir the butter and golden syrup together and mix into the dry ingredients.
  3. Press the mixture in a greased and lined 20cm x 30cm slice tin.
  4. Bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 25 minutes. Cool. Ice when cold.

Golden Orange Icing

  1. Mix 1½ cups icing sugar with the grated rind one orange, 1 tbsp golden syrup and sufficient orange juice to make a thin icing.
