Golden Syrup Dumplings


  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 2 tblsp butter
  • 1 egg
  • ΒΌ cup milk


  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tblsp golden syrup
  • 1 tblsp butter
  • 3 tblsp brown sugar


  1. Place the flour in a bowl and rub in the butter with your fingertips.
  2. Make a well in the centre and add the egg and milk. Mix together with a knife to make a soft dough. Roll the dough into 6-8 even sized balls and set aside.
  3. In a medium-sized saucepan and the water, golden syrup, butter and brown sugar and bring to the boil. Add the balls of dough.
  4. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Serve hot with cream and ice cream.

Cooks Tips

Variations - Add different spices or a little coconut to the dumpling mixture. Wrap the dough around pieces of dried fruit such as prunes or apricots. Add honey instead of brown sugar to the sauce.
