Light and flaky, filo pastry is easy to work with and you can make the most marvellous topping creations in no time at all. All you need is melted butter and a few sheets of filo.
Ingredients
- 1 pre made pie, cooked and cooled
- 8 sheets filo pastry
- 100 grams melted butter
Method
- Have your pie cooked and cooled.
- Brush one sheet of filo liberally with butter and fold in half. Brush the top with the melted butter. Place on top of your pie, trimming it if it needs to be round. Repleat this with another sheet of filo and place on top of the pie.
- Brush a new sheet of filo with the butter. Then carefully without grabbing, scrunch the pastry up into a loose bundle. Arrange the bundle on top of the filo covered pie. Repleat with the remaining 5 sheets of filo pastry.
- Drizzle over any remaining melted butter.
- Bake at 160ÂșC for about 35-40 minutes or until the pastry is golden and your pie is not. The amount of pastry will depend on the size of your dish. This recipe is sufficient for a standard family sized pie dish.
Cooks Tips
- The secret to achieving excellent results with filo is to make sure you cook it well so that all the leaves of the filo are cooked through.
