Chilli Con Carne

Try this chilli con carne wrapped up in a tortilla for a meal on the go or alternatively top on a boiled potato.


  • 500 grams lean beef mince
  • 2 onions, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1½ teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 425 gram can chilli-flavoured kidney beans
  • ½ cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef stock


  1. Brown the beef well in a deep lidded frying pan. Seat aside.
  2. Cook the onion in an extra dash of oil until soft. Add the paprika, garlic and cumin and cook a further minute.
  3. Return the mince to the pan with the chilli beans, tomato sauce and beef stock.
  4. Cover and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the beef is well flavoured. Serve the chilli con carne atop a baked potato garnished as wished or wrapped in a tortilla with your favourite salad ingredients for a meal on the go.

Cooks Tips

- Substitute chilli-flavoured kidney beans with standard baked beans and chilli powder or flakes to taste. - For a chic but casual lunch, mix together ¼ cup chopped pimento-stuffed olives, ½ chopped green pepper, a handful of chopped parsley with 1 diced avocado and serve on top of the mince.
