Ingredients
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 2 tblsp butter
- 1 egg
- ΒΌ cup milk
Sauce
- 1 cup water
- 2 tblsp golden syrup
- 1 tblsp butter
- 3 tblsp brown sugar
Method
- Place the flour in a bowl and rub in the butter with your fingertips.
- Make a well in the centre and add the egg and milk. Mix together with a knife to make a soft dough. Roll the dough into 6-8 even sized balls and set aside.
- In a medium-sized saucepan and the water, golden syrup, butter and brown sugar and bring to the boil. Add the balls of dough.
- Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Serve hot with cream and ice cream.
Cooks Tips
Variations - Add different spices or a little coconut to the dumpling mixture. Wrap the dough around pieces of dried fruit such as prunes or apricots. Add honey instead of brown sugar to the sauce.
